GEA's Policy & Advocacy work represents the collective voice of the LPG and rLG industries to government, regulators and the community. Two dedicated Committees guide this work, each covering a distinct part of GEA's engagement.

The Policy Committee shapes GEA's policy priorities and guides the association's responses to government submissions and consultations. The Corporate Affairs Committee oversees engagement of a public and political
nature, including media relations and broader stakeholder and reputational matters.

Much of GEA's current advocacy centres on ensuring Australian energy customers who rely on LPG retain the right to use LPG today, and will have the right to choose renewable liquid gas when and where they seek to reduce their LPG emissions.

This predominantly means ensuring emissions reporting legislation properly recognises renewable liquid gases, with recognition backed by credible certification pathways that let producers and users verify and claim their emissions reduction benefits.

GEA also engages directly with government on the issues shaping the industry's future. This includes formal correspondence on BioLPG market development, submissions to government departments on proposed regulatory changes, and representations to state and federal governments on matters affecting energy security and supply chain resilience.

GEA works to give government, regulators and other stakeholders a clearer, more accurate picture of the role LPG and rLG play across the Australian economy. To do this, GEA commissions studies and undertakes projects that bring the industry's technical and commercial knowledge into the public domain, building an evidence base that informs public policy debate.

Beyond formal policy engagement, GEA's advocacy involves building relationships with ministers, departments and regulators, so the industry's perspective is understood well before decisions are made. This proactive, evidence-based approach seeks to ensure Australian energy consumers retain access to reliable, affordable energy throughout the net zero transition.

GEA's advocacy is guided by its members, drawing on real-world industry expertise to ensure policy positions reflect the practical realities of supplying LPG and rLG across Australia. This grounding gives GEA's advocacy credibility with decision-makers and ensures the industry's voice carries genuine weight in the policy conversations that shape its future.
