GEA welcomes BioLPG support in NSW Renewable Fuels Strategy
21 November 2025
Gas Energy Australia welcomes the NSW Governments' updated Renewable Fuels Strategy (RFS) which recognises the value and importance of Renewable Liquid Gases such as BioLPG and E-LPG.
Now among the most comprehensive renewable fuels strategies in the nation, the NSW RFS represents an important step towards technology-agnostic decarbonisation, recognising a suite of eleven renewable fuels alongside renewable electricity options.
"The RFS recognises BioLPG and other renewable fuels as integral parts of the energy transition," said Gas Energy Australia Chief Executive Officer, Jordan McCollum. "Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, it supports renewable options that fit the unique circumstances of energy customers."
Beyond the great Australian barbecue, LPG plays an important role in energy supply. While many choose to use LPG in Australia's cities, many regional Australian homes and businesses rely on LPG for energy security and energy access where other sources of energy become unreliable or unavailable.
"BioLPG represents a genuine, practical decarbonisation option for regional Australian homes and businesses which can't rely on the electricity grid for twenty-four-seven renewable energy supply,"
A important part of the Strategy is the inclusion of GreenPower renewable LPG certification.
Certification is critical to market formation, providing the formal recognition that links the cost of a renewable fuel to genuine emissions reductions once recognised in federal emissions accounting.
"BioLPG certification is a significant step forward in enabling this new renewable energy supply chain, especially once the Federal Government recognises certificates within national emissions accounting,"
"This strategy is a win for all LPG users especially in regional Australia, supporting decarbonisation options that meet energy consumers where they are, rather than where they are told to be."
